One Fall Service For The Details That Matter Before Winter
A polished end-of-year landscape takes more than one pass with a blower. The Slevin Group treats fall care as part of full-property management, with repeat visits, lawn mowing, bed cleanup, plant cutbacks, and leaf handling planned around the way SOMA homes move through autumn.
South Orange, New Jersey homeowners work with one local company that understands municipal leaf pickup, neighborhood lot sizes, local equipment rules, and the timing needed for a clean final appearance.
Fall cleanup begins around October 19 and continues through the final leaf drop. Service may include up to three visits between October and December, generally spaced every two to three weeks based on leaf volume. Lawn areas are cleared during visits, mowing follows each cleanup for a striped finish, and the final visit takes care of remaining leaves across lawns and beds.
All-inclusive seasonal maintenance contracts include fall cleanup, allowing the same crew caring for the grounds throughout the year to handle the transition into winter. Stand-alone fall cleanup is also available, although The Slevin Group prefers the all-inclusive approach because it allows one team to manage the property as a whole.
Perennials are cut back, shrubs such as roses are pruned where needed, and ornamental grasses are handled according to homeowner preference. Some clients leave grasses standing for winter interest, while others prefer a cleaner appearance before winter.
Local SOMA Knowledge Shapes A Better Fall Service Plan
South Orange has its own practical considerations. Municipal pickup, smaller lots, limited composting space, and blower restrictions all influence how leaf work should be handled.
Two-cycle backpack blowers are restricted in SOMA. Maplewood has a 12-month ban, while South Orange has a five-month summer ban. The Slevin Group has invested heavily in Stihl battery-powered technology so crews can follow local rules and perform seasonal work with equipment suited to the communities they serve.
Leaf handling also depends on the site. South Orange and Maplewood provide curbside pickup, so leaves can be stacked neatly along the street for municipal collection. Composting is preferred where practical because it puts organic material back into the landscape, but smaller SOMA lots often leave little room for it. Wooded sections may be used where space allows.
In municipalities without curbside pickup, The Slevin Group can collect leaves with its large leaf-suction equipment and transport the material to a state-certified composting facility.
Seasonal service can support:
- Cleaner lawn areas throughout the leaf-drop period
- A polished appearance as autumn progresses
- Beds and plant material prepared for colder weather
- Leaf handling suited to the property and municipality
The result is fall cleanup handled as part of a larger property management plan, with local rules, disposal, lawn care, and plant care considered together.
